Pack up & move this morning to Cottonwood CG which is in the direction of the North Rim. 11km, 460m elevation gain.
I guess we are at Day 6 (Day 2 of GC backpack)
This trail is much more moderately graded compared to yesterday & it was much easier to hike & gawk around without having to concentrate on my feet so much.
Utah Agave Agave utahensis also known as the Century Agave. It plugs away in this extremely harsh environment & once it flowers throwing up this 4m high flower stalk it dies. Stunning plant.
Somewhere in here is refered to as 'The Box'. Harch contrasts making shoot'n a challenge.
Gradually the canyon opens up as we approach Cottonwood CG. Clouds building made a shower seem likely.
After choosing a campsite we dropped packs & I removed my boots to let my feet 'air out' for a few minutes. A number of flys were attracted to them for some strange reason & as we sat on opposite sides of the campsite a small lizard suddenly darted to the middle of the cleared campsite & froze. As we watched it zoned in on my foot & before I could hardly blink the lizard darted up & nailed the fly right off my toe! Wild kingdom!
We set up the tent & then used it to weather a one hour shower. Nap time.
