Monument Valley

Right out of a Western...
If your idea of a Western is all the local Navajo selling the cowboys jewelry at every turn. But the scenery was what we came for so that was easy enough to ignore.
After finding a campsite we paid our five bucks & drove out onto the loop road thru the valley. Some areas are only accessible to the jeep tours but we were able to see quite a bit of it on our own. If staying longer I would have looked into a guided tour & possibly the hike around West Mitten Butte (the only hiking area in the valley).

Many of the features have names like Spearhead Messa, Elephant Butte, The Thumb, etc but we were rapidly burning daylight & I prefer to use my own creativity when it comes to naming things anyway so I won't give the whole play by play.

Love the light in this shot, looks like you could just take a bite out of the stone & it would melt in your mouth.

I'm pretty sure this one is called "Totem Pole" & if you take the jeep tour it goes right up to it with the red dunes below...

Stayed until dark, I felt a little guilty as at the time Moe didn't have a working tripod. Just a little guilty... for the record I did offer to share.
Back at camp Moe was playing with his am radio & pulled in the Calgary station (960) with the Flames game in progress. Bizarre as most everything else was a fuzzy mess.
