105

Day One of "Fall Road Trip 2009""I like to drive at 105
better hurry up if you wanna catch me"
Fred Eaglesmith
Well I'd better get going on the posts from this trip which began long ago in a land faraway with a discussion with my buddy Moe about a trip to the Grand Canyon. We both turned 40 this year & I had been 20 years on the same job (well, same company at any rate) so figured something big was in the cards. We were denied for spring but our October application to hike the Grand Canyon was accepted. As luck would have it Moe was between jobs and enjoying what I dubbed "The Fall of Moe" in reference to George Costanza's "Summer of George" (from Seinfeld) so what for him was to be a week off became a little wider so I booked off a little over two weeks, loaded the van with my stuff & pointed her south. We had no firm plans except for the dates in the GC & lots of bright ideas about stuff we'd like to see at points in between.

Dates for this trip are from Oct 15-Nov 1 2009.
Glad to be heading south away from the ice & snow. The I15 is a boring drive but efficient. Stopping only to upload and download fluids I cut across from Salt Lake City on Hwy 6 & made Green River Utah by the end of the first day. 1694 km. Slept in the van at the truckstop (or as I was calling it "Casa Montana" as my van is a Pontiac Montana) planning to connect with Moe in the morning as he expected to make it somewhere into the general area by days end also, coming from his home in Denver CO.

(Moe's blog account of the trip from his end can be found starting here)
