Heading into a long weekend... I've worked the past two Saturdays & averaging 14hr days... running out of gas...
Last Sunday Mike & I hit the slopes of Sunshine for a fine day of spring skiing. Late in the day clouds rolled in with a little precip but nothing too major. No legs left by then anyway.
As is the custom for the spring season Sunshine has been bringing in bands, today it's Nelson's own BC/DC. They do a great job of covering AC/DC (mostly their earlier stuff) ... fun show. Ya just gotta love a band whose lead guitarist wears a cow-suit.
Party on Garth
Meanwhile back at the ranch... Eric didn't ski with us due to a soccer injury so this was the backyard Sunday morning. How many kids were here???
So this long weekend Moe and I are doing another photo challenge thingie. As we both had about a three email limit on setting this up heres the deal:animal (wild – bird or four legs. No pets) scenic (prefer landscape), plant, macro (nature oriented) so four frames total
Not too restrictive but I really really need to get the camera thing going again. If I can combine that with a hike even better... Not sure where Moe plans to post his shots, his blog: it gathers dust.
Then there's the garden, clean out my truck, Silverland agenda, letter for Eric's grad (already late), visiting with friends, Little Britches parade & rodeo, maybe skiing... or a good book & a sunny patch.
Oh & before I forget I uploaded photos from fall 2009 AZ, UT & NV to Zenfolio today from my laptop. A bit easier to scroll thru than on the blog, full screen is nice, but they aren't annotated yet. What do you want fer nuth'n?

Fernie Bonus Days
April 17 & 18, 2010. The final two days of the season at Fernie. Great skiing with sun & soft spring snow with the favorite part for the kids being the hydroplane across the 'pond' at the bottom of the Boomerang Chair. We also had several big feeds off the bbq, enjoyed the hot tub & the company of our little group of reprobates. There were a few beer that survived but the scotch was not so lucky.
Rest of the photos can be viewed here
Ski season isn't over yet, Sunshine remains open!!! (I love spring skiing)

Divide & Conquer
Saturday May 2. Ho-hum... just another blue-bird day at Sunshine... soft snow & good times with laps so frequent we ran out of gas before the lifts closed.
Usual suspects on the Divide runs.
Nice one Eric. I guess we'll find out soon enough if the Musscha reads this post.

Hang Time

April 15, 2009 trip up to Sunshine with Eric and a friend. Now that basketball is over Eric is a little more aggressive on the slopes & is willing to play in the terrain parks. I'll just shoot thanks... my landings haven't gotten any smoother with age. I just hit the small ones, this one was labelled 'large'.

Lizard Powder
So Saturday was a ski day with Eric finally able to strap his still dodgey ankle into a boot. Bill and Robert joined us for what was to be one of our better days to date at Fernie with our choice of soft spring snow all the way to fresh powder after they finished avy control in Lizard bowl.
At one point in the day it struck me that Mike was likely stuck in a stuffy library studying some obscure mathy type thing so we text messaged a picture to him. The resulting reply was unprintable naturally... we had a good laugh at your expense Mike... love ya little buddy! Study hard, I need a place to stay when I'm old remember!
With luck there is still a day or two of spring skiing yet to come but if not this was a hell of a good way to wrap up the ski season.

Work'n to Rule
Took Tuesday off to do a little skiing with the boys at Lake Louise. No new snow for a while, it was mostly groomers. Fun though especially since I won most of the races (pure skill… or superior aerodynamics, take your pick)
Forgive me for a short rant. Whoever decides on the school year needs to give their head a shake. For the last number of years we have had a week off in February. Sometimes it was a ski holiday, last year it was Costa Rica. It dovetails nicely with reading week for most colleges and universities too. Then this year they rearranged things so instead of a week off in Feb. two days of that were moved to October or something (I forget) so this week was Mon.- Family Day, Tues.- classes, Wed.- classes (well supposed to be, a lot of kids went on a school ski trip including Eric) then Thurs. & Fri. off. So you can imagine how much work might have been done on Tues. Rarely did we / do we endorse missing school but since Mike was home from University and Tues. was the best day for me we loaded up and made a run for the hills.
Apparently attendance over those days was recorded and will be 'taken into account' when designing next years calendar. Hopefully at least one or two of the board members studied math in school.

Slush, Drugs & Rock & Roll
With spring kicking into high-gear here we had our pick of long weekend family activities from canoeing, hiking, or one last crack at Sunshine on the second last day of the season. It wasn't a hard choice.
Here's the slush part (tails of my skis)... for those who don't understand spring skiing... its all about the easy turns in the soft snow, the sun, and generally positive attitude everyone has.
Eric takes flight.
A rare picture of Mike without a snowball in his hand.
A long view showing the weather... mixed bag of sun, wind, bit of rain... but its all good.
The Drugs? Advil of course and the Rock & Roll courtesy BC/DC, an AC/DC tribute band from Nelson who put on one hell of a live show on the hill.
Other weekend activities: chores, gardening, some work, and playing with Tessa... our new dog. She's camera shy though and I haven't got a good shot of her yet. Wait for it.
